Methylphenidate may be prescribed to adults, adolescents, and kids older than 6 years who have ADHD. You can take ADHD medications as prescribed by your doctors.

Common side effects that can occur from methylphenidate include:

  • feeling aggressive, irritable, depressed, anxious, or nervous
  • problem in sleeping
  • slight growth in blood pressure and heart speed
  • Stomach aches and headaches,
  • loss of hunger, and that can lead to weight loss or weight gain or weight loss

2. Lisdexamfetamine:

Lisdexamfetamine stimulates specific regions of the brain. It helps in improving engagement, concentration and helps focus attention, and reduces impulsive behavior.

It may be offered to children over the age of 5.  Only if at least six weeks of treatment with methylphenidate has not helped. Adults can suggest lisdexamfetamine as the first-choice medicine over methylphenidate.

Common list of side effects that can occur while taking lisdexamfetamine include:

3. Dexamfetamine:

Dexamfetamine is equivalent to lisdexamfetamine.  And it works in the same way as dexamfetamine. It may be recommended by your doctors for adults, teenagers, and kids over the age of 5 with ADHD. Dexamfetamine can be taken 2 to 4 times a day.

Common side effects of dexamphetamine include:

  • headaches
  • nausea and vomiting
  • mood swings
  • Dizziness
  • declined appetite
  • fidgets and aggression
  • diarrhea

4. Atomoxetine:

Compared to other ADHD drugs, atomoxetine has a different effect. It is a selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), which means it increases the concentration of the noradrenaline molecule in the brain. Improving this neurotransmitter, which communicates between brain cells and can help with focus and impulse control.

Common side effects of atomoxetine include:

  • stomach aches
  • trouble sleeping
  • dizziness
  • irritability
  • nausea and vomiting
  • Headaches
  • slight growth in blood pressure and heart rate

Atomoxetine has also been connected to more severe side effects like suicidal thoughts and liver damage.

5. Guanfacine:
